Women's Services

We are dedicated to providing expert, high quality women's reproductive health services in a professional, caring, and compassionate manner. We assure confidentiality and individual support for each woman.

Offered in both an inpatient and outpatient basis, we provide a broad range of obstetrical and gynecological services including ultrasound, cancer screening and treatment, childbirth classes, maternity services, mammography, self-breast exams, obstetrics, and gynecology. In addition, our education programs include childbirth education classes.

Annual gynecological examinations are essential to women's reproductive and general health. Our offices offer timely, reasonably priced gynecological exams including birth control consultations and prescriptions, STD screening and treatment, and emergency appointments. We are equipped with ultrasound to facilitate diagnosis of reproductive system problems.

Annual Exam - A yearly exam consists of a breast exam, internal and external exam of the vagina, and an examination of the other reproductive organs. This is normally given in conjunction with a pap smear. A birth control consultation and prescription can also be included.

Pelvic Exam - This is an examination of your internal organs: uterus, fallopian tubes and ovaries. The doctor or nurse practitioner will check for any abnormalities by inserting two fingers into your vagina while applying pressure to your abdomen to physically examine these reproductive organs.

Breast Exam - This examination checks the breast tissue for any abnormalities. The doctor or nurse practitioner will physically examine your breast tissue by applying pressure in a circular pattern over each breast and into the armpit areas to feel for any lumps or other irregularities in the breast tissue. You will also be given the opportunity to learn how to perform a breast self-exam.

Pap Smear - This safe, simple and quick procedure consists of collecting a sample of cells from the cervix and examining them for any abnormalities. The doctor or nurse practitioner will gather the sample by opening the walls of the vagina with a speculum and, using a small brush/spatula, brushing cells from the surface of the cervix. You should have a Pap smear at least once a year as early-detection screening for cervical cancer.

Sexually Transmitted Disease Testing - We offer a wide range of STD screening including Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, Syphilis, HPV (genital warts), HSV (herpes) and HIV tests to women and men. We also offer treatment or referrals for treatment to all patients who have positive results.

Free Childbirth Education Classes - Classes start the first Tuesday of every month, from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm in the Clearlake Family Health Center Conference Room, 15230 Lakeshore Drive, Clearlake. Call to register: 995-5875. Classes are free and open to those expecting within the next two to three months. Please bring a pillow and blanket for relaxation exercises.
